Cervical Nerve Root Blocks

The cervical root-level blocks encompass many similar blocks: traditional interscalene, cervical paravertebral, and posterior approach to the interscalene. Regardless of the name, each approach brings the block needle into close approximation with the cervical nerve roots. We teach the use of large, blunt-tipped needles (Touhy) for the placement of these blocks in order to decrease the risk of dural puncture and intraneural injection.
